Helicity Space, a pioneer in fusion power for in-space propulsion and power technology, has received an investment for an undisclosed amount from Lockheed Martin Ventures. This investment follows Helcity Space’s $5 million seed investment round in December, with contributions from Airbus Ventures, TRE Ventures, Voyager Space Holdings, E2MC Space, Urania Ventures, and Gaingels as reported by Defense Daily.

The partnership brings essential financial support to Helicity Space and also unlocks opportunities to collaborate with Lockheed Martin’s top-tier researchers and engineers, fostering innovation in the space transportation sector.

Helicity Space’s innovative fusion propulsion technology represents a culmination of over two decades of rigorous scientific pursuit. Leveraging sophisticated concepts such as plectonemic plasma jets, magnetic reconnection, and peristaltic magnetic compression, the technology pushes the boundaries of energy density and efficiency. Chris Moran, Lockheed Martin Ventures’ vice president and general manager, emphasized Helicity Space’s innovative propulsion and power technology as a strategic asset for deep space missions and enhancing mission success for their clients.

Marta Calvo, co-founder and COO of Helicity Space, highlighted the broader implications of each investment, envisioning a future where nuclear fusion propulsion enables unprecedented scientific exploration, commercial opportunities, and national security enhancements across the solar system.
