Fortius Metals, a company specializing in metal 3D printing, announced it has closed an additional $2 million in Seed+ funding, bringing its total raised in this round to $5 million. The investment includes new backing from Finindus, a strategic investor, after clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). This comes despite the challenges in the venture funding landscape, signaling strong confidence in Fortius’s approach to wire-based additive manufacturing.

Fortius Metals, based in Colorado, focuses on large-format additive manufacturing using advanced metal alloys, targeting aerospace and defense sectors. Their patented technology enables customers, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, NASA, and commercial space companies, to overcome the limitations of traditional 3D printing. The company’s solutions offer significant improvements in design flexibility, strength, and weight reduction, making it a valuable partner in defense and space projects.

CEO Jeff Lints highlighted that the latest investment will accelerate the company’s product development, including their proprietary aluminum welding wires, 6061-RAM2 and 7075-RAM2, which address common issues like hot cracking. Fortius plans to introduce new wire alloys in 2025, such as IN625-RAM and 316L-RAM, with enhanced properties.

The fresh capital will support Fortius’s push to bring these innovations to market, while also helping to meet the growing demand for precision welding and 3D printing solutions. Roel Callebaut, Senior Investment Manager at Finindus, noted that Fortius’s advancements align with the firm’s focus on sustainable industrial technologies, emphasizing the potential for reshoring metal manufacturing to the U.S.
