Leanspace, in partnership with CySec and Constellation Technologies & Operations (CTO), announced it has been awarded the €10.5 million “Umbrella” project under the France 2030 initiative. Backed by the French government, the project aims to address the increasing complexity of managing large satellite constellations, positioning Leanspace as a critical player in the satellite operations sector.
The French company’s software infrastructure, already proven in small satellite missions, will now be used to solve new challenges related to the growth of satellite constellations. As the number of satellites in orbit is projected to soar by 2030, Leanspace’s role in supporting operators with secure and scalable solutions will be critical.
Following successful collaborations with American clients, Leanspace has announced plans to open a US office later this year. This move will allow the company to better support both commercial and government space missions in the US. Leanspace is also launching an ITAR-compliant solution, showing its readiness to handle the unique demands of US-based space projects.
One of the key problems for the space industry in the coming decade is how to manage the ever-growing number of satellite constellations. As constellations increase in size, operators must deal with a range of technical challenges. These include managing multiple orbits, communication protocols, and inter-satellite networks, all while ensuring the security of sensitive data.
Leanspace, CySec, and CTO are developing solutions to address these issues. They are focusing on improving real-time operations, automation, and cybersecurity for satellite networks. This includes creating a universal monitoring system, automating routine satellite operations, and implementing new post-quantum cryptography to protect satellite communication.
The “Umbrella” project highlights the collaboration between Leanspace, CySec, and CTO in developing advanced space technologies. CySec is contributing its expertise in cybersecurity, while CTO is using its digital twin technology to validate the Leanspace platform for future satellite operations.
By addressing these technical challenges, Leanspace and its partners are positioning themselves to support the next generation of satellite constellations. Their solutions will allow operators to securely and efficiently manage the growing complexity of space missions in real-time.
