Millennium Space Systems, a Boeing company, has secured a contract worth $414 million from the Space Development Agency (SDA) to develop and deliver the Fire-control On Orbit-support-to-the-war Fighter, abbreviated as FOO Fighter or F2. As the primary contractor, Millennium Space Systems will spearhead the end-to-end operations, encompassing the creation of eight satellites along with a ground system and mission operations.

“The F2 Low Earth orbit constellation aims to provide high-quality sensing data for fire-control, reinforcing our defense capabilities against evolving threats,” stated Jason Kim, CEO of Millennium Space Systems. “Despite the historical connotation, FOO Fighter represents a vital mission contributing to the protection of our nation and allies.”

F2 is a pivotal step in enhancing the U.S. government’s ability to detect, warn, and precisely track advanced threats, particularly hypersonic missile systems. The constellation will exhibit advanced missile defense by integrating fire control-quality sensors into a prototype system.

“Our expertise in this domain allowed us to engineer an optimal solution at a reasonable cost, leveraging our existing sensing vehicle and core components,” explained Kim. “Through extensive modeling and simulation, we’ve meticulously designed the payload to ensure its effectiveness in executing the mission.”

It’s important to note that this endeavor received partial funding from the U.S. Government. The perspectives and conclusions presented in this work are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the U.S. Government.
