PRESS RELEASE — London / May 22, 2023 — OneWeb, the low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, today announced the finalists in its open Innovation Challenge 2022 themed “Connectivity and Beyond!”
The annual challenge, in association with the European Space Agency, invites engineering, science, creative talent, research professionals, and subject matter experts from around the world to identify new ways to unleash the potential in OneWeb’s global communications network to serve future generations.
This year’s challenge shone an extraordinary light on all the amazing ideas (and people) out there who have a true vision of what a global communications network, and global high-speed connectivity can mean for the future. Our finalists embody the message of our challenge, to grasp our global network capabilities and go beyond what we expect from connectivity, to deliver applications in areas such as telemedicine, AI, and airplane connectivity.
More than 70 innovators from 25 countries took part in the challenge.
Seven innovators have been successful in the Industrial Partners award category and will now enter a co-engineering phase together with OneWeb to further develop their ideas.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in this exciting innovation challenge and we are grateful for the amazing responses from all of the entrants around the world who submitted their ideas to OneWeb.

OneWeb’s annual Innovation Challenge is part of the OneWeb Innovation Programme to find and foster smart new innovations in space communications, connecting ideas for good for the benefit of everyone on Earth – responsibly, sustainably, and together.
