PRESS RELEASE — May 11, 2023 — Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) have announced today the renewal of the Strategic Intention and Cooperation Statement, which aims to continue supporting innovation and economic and technological development of the space industry in Brazil through a specialized incentive and mentoring program for startups. The signing occurred during this year’s SpaceBR Show fair.

The agreement commitments by both AEB and AWS in February 2022 and includes initiatives focused on the growth of the Brazilian space industry, national space research and development (R&D) programs, training resources, and startup boosting. It also includes the AWS Open Data Sponsorship Program, to encourage collaboration between AEB and its partners to create a centralized repository of space data that will allow stakeholders to easily access and analyze space data, using cloud tools and technologies, as well as establishing a policy, strategy, and regulatory support for space development.

“Renewing this agreement reinforces our commitment to driving innovation and growth in our space industry, as well as contributing to the expansion of the startup ecosystem in the segment here in Brazil,” said Paulo Cunha, AWS’s general director for the Public Sector in Brazil. Signatories to the agreement included Carlos Moura, president of the Brazilian Space Agency, and Clint Crosier, global director of the Aerospace area at AWS.

“The development of an effective ecosystem of space products and services requires, among other conditions, the availability of tools and interaction with innovative and dynamic entities. The continued collaboration with AWS allows us to present opportunities to our space entrepreneurs,” says the president of AEB, Carlos Moura.

During SpaceBR Show 2023, AWS and MundoGeo are promoting, for the second consecutive year, a competition that involves 8 startups and aims to showcase to the Latin American community the potential of new businesses triggered by space exploration. Startups will have the opportunity to present their business to potential investors, and at the end of the competition, AWS will award the winners a total of R$ 17,500 in cloud credits for project development. Additionally, the top three winners will be awarded cash prizes, Space Founder scholarships, and featured on the MundoGeo portal.

In the 2022 edition, eight startups, selected from 21 applicants, had the opportunity to present their business projects to potential investors.
